Rockingham Speedway preview Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup 2014
THM Racing are ready to take their game to the Rockingham Speedway this coming Bank Holiday May 5th.
After a successful debut at Oulton Park and Matt Hamilton's blistering P5 qualifying success and subsequent top ten finish in arguably one of the most dramatic first and second round openers of recent times, the THM Racing machine is primed and ready to further it's progression from its firm debut footing in the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup series.
Since Oulton Park, there has been considerable development works undertaken on the race car. This has included updates on the transmission, engine cooling and also the troublesome throttle sensor that caused so many challenges at Oulton Park.
Trevor Humphrey, Technical Director commented, “the car ran well at Oulton Park, but with every race and test you find areas to improve and that never stops. The engine cooling did prove a real issue for us in the second race at Oulton Park, which did affect the overall power, but we are confident we have made progress in that department.”
Matt Hamilton has been completing his fitness routine, keeping himself in peak condition preparing both mentally and physically for the Rockingham Speedway event, hie eye firmly on building upon Outlon Parks successes.
Matt commented, “I really enjoyed Oulton Park and it was great to finally get behind the wheel. The car felt good, despite the few issues we had and I can’t wait to get to Rockingham.”
Race Weekend Outlook:
The weather forecast looks good at this point, so hopefully we shall have dry races, but this far away it could well change. The circuit, being an oval speedway, but with a tight and technical infield section really tests the set up preparations for the car. On Saturday during practice and testing we shall be working on our set up, with any minor modifications made on the Sunday morning before qualifying.
Steve Parkinson, Racing Director commented, “it’s been quite a quick turnaround from Oulton Park, with a very hectic development schedule for the car in the last week. Rockingham presents different challenges to Oulton Park, especially as there are very limited run off areas, so if you go off its certainly not as forgiving as other circuits. The whole team are looking forward to Rockingham and we shall be welcoming some of our Partners this weekend, who I know are eager to get up close to the action with the team.”

The international motorsport venue is the first purpose built race track in the UK since Brooklands in 1907 and has transformed the industrial wasteland left by the British Steel works into an asset that the people of Corby and Northamptonshire are justly proud of.
Rounds 3 and 4 of the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup will take place on the International Super Sportscar Circuit, which combines long straights, sweeping high-speed bends including the infamous Turn 1 and Gracelands and a lower speed, highly technical infield layout.2013:
Pole position was taken by Aaron Mason in 2013, with a lap of 1:37.553, which was followed up with a fastest lap in race 1 of 1:38.141 by Joe Fulbrook and 1:38.534 in race 2 by Didge Dziurzynski.
